Ward 4 is a Buckinghamshire-based tribute act consisting of drummer/singer John, frontman Marty Gee, guitarists Richard and Mick, and bassist Glen. They united in the late 1990s under one love; rock n' roll. The band is famous for their renditions of rhythm n' blues hits, country ballads and 60's popular music. While Ward 4 is a quintet, the original line-up consisted of four members; John, Richard, Phil and Glen. After the later addition of the charismatic 'Marty Gee', the band saw no reason to change the name which had already gained them a reputation for being a fantastic live act, and thusly remained Ward 4, rather than 5!
John Ward, the founder of the band, is the driving force, providing the solid rhythm the other members need to continue rocking, as well as performing lead vocals on a large number of the band's set. His resume includes session work with rock n' roll greats such as Roy Powell. The band's main frontman, Marty Gee lives and breathes the 1950s; immediately evident in his pop attire, slicked-back hair and sharp voice. Ward 4's lead guitarist Richard is both a long time friend of bassist Glen and an incredibly competent lead player. His wide range of knowledge of various musical genres and experience in playing live since the 1960s makes him a incredibly versatile musician. Mick's confident work on rhythm guitar is vital part of the Ward 4 live chemistry. There is no doubt that something would be missing from the performance without his solid, assured performance. However, bassist Glen was originally a rhythm guitarist for the band, but now his confideent bluesy accompaniment and vital backing vocals help contribute to the authentic rock n' roll sound that can only be described as Ward 4.
